How to Gauge
Ear
Ear Stretching |
If you decide gauge your ear, you have to know about
how it is done. You also need sufficient information about the tools used for
every method, keeping your ears safe and maintained, as well as the measurement
you want to start on. Different types of method are used in ear gauging. A
long-standing home method involves sewing thread is drawn through the piercing
and tied, as a device for keeping the piercing open during the healing process.
These methods are often unsafe and risky due to issues of improper placement.
Another method of piercing ears is the use of
sharpened spring-loaded earrings known as self-piecers, trainers or sleepers
which gradually pushed through the earlobe. But these methods are not seen at
present due to the popularity of faster and successful piercing techniques.
Although ear can be gauged by self information
guides, but it is more safe to consult with a professional ear piecer. Ear
piercing instruments, sometimes called ear piercing guns, were originally
developed for the physician use. Most of the people in western countries have
their ear pierced with an ear piercing instrument. An earlobe piercing is
performed with ear piercing instruments is described as feeling similar to
being pinched. This method is not recommended by many piercing professionals
and physicians, as it can cause blunt force trauma to the skin and takes long
time to heal. Besides, the majority of ear piercing instruments are made of
plastic which can never be truly sterilized by the use of Autoclave. In the
case of cartilage piercing, doing it with an ear piercing instrument can
shatter the ear cartilage and lead to serious complications.
After fixing the method of piercing you should
decide on which piece of jewelry, tunnel or ring you want to stretch in your
ear. You should not skip sizes while stretching ears. Skipping of gauge sizes
may hurt or damage ears. Taper and plug will be the most suitable gauge for
piercing or stretching ears. It will take some time to heal and the next gauge
can be worn. If you decide to pierce your ear by yourself, you can simply
stretch using stainless steel and a plug to match desired gauge size. Ears
should not be kept dried. Rub and massage oil to keep it wet. After waiting for
eight to ten weeks you will be fit for the next larger gauge.
Ear stretching would use the taper to ensure the
stretching results to the desired size. The taper also called tapering ring is
slid through the piercing, followed by the jewelry piece that will be used, and
the taper is then removed at the back of your lobes.
Stretching should not have too much pain. If it
hurts you too much or there is bleeding, then most likely your ears are not
ready for the next gauge.
