Web Hosting: How to choose free hosting plan

If you have just started your career as a new webmaster and looking to start an online business, this article obviously has been made for you. When you are going to build your own website you must focus on three things-
  • a web host
  • a domain name and
  • an application to create and manage your website
In the earlier post, I have discussed how to register domain for free. Today I am going to tell you how to choose a best hosting plan.

How to choose free web hosting:

  • There are a lot of sites who provide you free web hosting. But, most of them do it through advertising. They impost advertisements on your site( By this way they can cover their cost of providing free space for you. Someone impose banner on your pages or show a window that pops up every time and provide advertising on your website. So, you can choose any of methods which you feel more comfortable for you.
  • Most of the free hosts apply you to host up to 20 Mb. Sites that needs less than 5 Mb are best. It depends on your site that how many space does it need?  If your sites filled with pictures, video clips and sounds clips, then you are going to pay a larger amount for your web space.
  • FTP or File Transfer Protocol is the most common way to transfer files from your computer to web host computer which can be visited by anyone in the world. Some of free hosting companies allow you to design your page by their online site builder such as- But, these online site builders have some limitation which can hamper your online business when you will be placed on advanced level. FTP access is very mandatory for your site which enables you to upload important files and pictures. But, some sites which are trivial do not need FTP access.
  • Some free web hosts put a limitation to your file size and type. A maximum size of the file can be determined by the host that you upload. Others sites do not support HTML, JPG or GIF files that you prefer to upload. So, what will you choose? It depends on your demands. If you do not happy with them, you have go for others.
  • Reliability and speed of your site are most important point. Visitors are the blood of a site. The more you can get visitors, the more your business/products will be flourished. A site which is down almost all the time definitely lose its visitors. When a visitors find your site on search engines and try to access it, he will notice that it is down. Then he will get out from your site and look for the alternative. People don't like to wait. They want to access your site quickly and it also embarrassing for you to upload any file. So, how can you find out that the host reliable or fast? If you do not have enough knowledge from any source, you can check it yourself. Make an experiment during both peak and off-peak hours. You will find the answer.
  • Most of the free hosts impose a limitation on the amount of traffic that can use your site per day and per month. If your site hit the maximum number of traffic then your site is going to get down or you may be sent a bill to be paid. No one can advise you to determined specific bandwidth amount. Because, it solely depends on your site such as how it is designed, targeted traffic and amount of traffic you can attract to your site per day or month. But, you can have an idea that 100 Mb traffic is too little which can be used for your personal homepage and 1-3 Gb traffic per month is eligible for a simple website.
  • One of the most important thing you should focus on that your host support PHP, MySQL or Dreamweaver etc. in order to manage your site.
I hope this article is very valuable for you to choose a free hosting plan. I have spent a plenty of time to make this post. Don't forget to comment about this post. Your comment will make me to write up this kind of posts.
